This is a tutorial guide for students interested in taking one or more courses as a transient student at the University of West Florida. Please note that Transient Permission Letters are not required for transient admission at UWF. Definitions
Helpful Applications
Log in to MyUWF, and search for the following applications:
- Undergraduate Admit Next Steps (view holds and immunization requirements prior to registering)
- Navigate (schedule meetings with an academic advisor)
- Registration Menu (view Holds and register for classes)
- Classmate (view your schedule)
Prerequisite Errors
Prerequisites must be completed before registration is allowed. If you believe you have completed the required prerequisite(s), please set an appointment with an academic advisor through the Navigate application on MyUWF to request a Prerequisite Override.
For step-by-step instructions, please scroll down to our Prerequisites section of this page.
1. Apply as a Transient Student
Students from a non-Florida SUS or taking Graduate course credit cannot apply through the Florida Shines program. If you are one of these students, you may move forward with submitting a Non-degree Seeking application at MyUWF (Undergraduate or Graduate).
Florida Shines
Apply through Florida Shines if you are an Undergraduate Degree-seeking student in the Florida SUS (non-private). Meet with your home institution's academic advisor prior to submitting this application.
This application should route to the necessary signers from your school and the Office of the Registrar at UWF. If you cannot see your school within the list provided, then it means that your school is either private or not from the state of Florida.
On the form, your school will indicate your residency status. UWF will base your residency only on what your school provides. If you receive an out-of-state waiver from your home institution and would like to discuss your option of receiving a waiving from UWF, please see the Cashier's Office website and contact them for more information.
Non-degree Admission Application
If you are a student from non-Florida SUS or taking Graduate-level courses, you may submit an Admissions application:
2. Prepare for Registration
If you submitted a Florida Shines transient student application, you must wait until the Office of the Registrar (registrar@uwf.edu) has completed your application. Once your application is completed, you should receive an email from TSAA with your UWF ID.
If you submitted a Non-degree Admissions application, you must wait until the Admissions Office (Undergraduate or Graduate) processes your application. You should receive your UWF ID in communication with the Office of Admissions (admissions@uwf.edu) or the Office of Graduate Admissions (gradadmissions@uwf.edu).
Activating MyUWF/ArgoNet
You may visit our Activating your MyUWF/ArgoNet Account page for step-by-step instructions.
- Contact the Help Desk if you have any trouble activating your MyUWF.
Holds
Prior to registration, you are required to resolve any holds on your account. You may visit our Viewing Holds page for step-by-step instructions. If you have any questions about your holds, please email the department listed in your Holds menu (under the Student Academic Records Menu application) on MyUWF.
- All incoming students must acknowledge and agree to the Financial Responsibility Statement before registering for courses. For more information, you may visit our Financial Responsibility Statement page for more information.
3. Registration
All incoming transient students follow the Undergraduate, Non-degree Seeking Registration dates. You may see these dates in our Academic Calendar. Please note that no time ticket changes may be provided.

Registration Menu
You may begin Registering for Courses through the Registration Menu (under the Student Academic Records Menu application) on MyUWF.
- If a course section is closed, you may enroll on the Waitlist until a spot becomes available.
Once two (2) hours have passed after registering for at least one (1) course, you may then upgrade to have full access to your Argonet Account.
Prerequisites
When applying to UWF as a non-degree/transient student, your course history will not transfer over. If your desired course(s) have prerequisites, you will most likely receive a prerequisite error.
Prerequisites must be completed before registration is allowed. If you believe you have completed the required prerequisite(s), please set an appointment with an academic advisor through the Navigate application on MyUWF to resolve the prerequisite error. For more information, you may visit the Academic Advising Information for Non-Degree & Transient Students webpage.
Schedule an Appointment
Navigate (must be logged in to MyUWF) - you may also search for this application on MyUWF.
You may visit our Navigate Scheduling guide for more information.
Look up College and Department
- Use the Course Search application on MyUWF and look up one of your courses.
- Select the underlined course title
- A pop-up titled “Class Details for…” should appear.
- Click on the “Catalog” tab at the bottom
In the “Catalog” tab, you should see the College and Department that owns the course. Repeat this with each of your courses. You may use the following image as a guide.
FAQs
If you have taken the required prerequisite at your home institution, you may then request a Prerequisite Override from the course department. We advise students to set an appointment with the course department's academic advisor to resolve this issue. You may have to provide a copy of your transcripts (may be unofficial, dependent on the department).
