Temporary impairments or medical conditions are generally not classified as disabilities under applicable disability laws, as they typically do not result in substantial, long-term limitations to major life activities. However, the Student Accessibility Resources (SAR) office may provide support to students experiencing temporary conditions by facilitating short-term accommodations. 


Steps to Request Temporary Services

To be considered for temporary services, students must complete the following steps:

  • Submit a Temporary Services Application
  • Schedule an appointment with the SAR staff (sar@uwf.edu , 850.474.2387)
  • Provide supporting medical documentation as stated below:
    • licensed or certified professional who is qualified to diagnose and treat the specific condition
    • professional letterhead
    • states the condition and explains the functional limitations the condition imposes in the academic setting
    • states accommodations the student will need

During the appointment, the student and the SAR staff will discuss the following:

  • Details regarding the temporary disabling condition
  • Documentation of the temporary condition
  • Possible accommodations and services
  • A time frame for the accommodations based on physician recommendations
  • No labels
