This page reviews the check in process for F-1 and J-1 students in the first semester at UWF. All new international students, including transfer students, must complete check in with UWF International Affairs. |
Register and Attend International Orientation
All new international students must attend International Orientation.
- Students who are transferring an I-20 to UWF must also complete International Orientation.
- You will get an email with the link to register for International Orientation.
Upload Your Travel Documents
When you get your visa, you can upload travel documents.
- You can complete this step before you arrive in the US.
Log into MyUWF and complete the International Student Check-in: Upload Required Documents Form
Upload these documents:
- Form I-20 for F-1 students/Form DS-2019 for J-1 students
- F-1 or J-1 visa
- Passport
Update your Contact Information in MyUWF
International students have three address types that must be listed accurately in MyUWF.
Please review Address and Phone Help for more information.
- Local Address is your mailing address in the US.
- Homeland Security Address is the address where you live in the US.
- Permanent Address is your address outside of the US, typically in your home country.
You can update your Local Address and Homeland Security Address when you know the details.

- F-1 and J-1 students must have a US phone number.
Enroll Full Time
J-1 students work with their advisor at the home institution to select classes.

F-1 Degree-seeking students
F-1 students must work with their academic advisor to register for classes. Freshmen will work with First Year Advising to register for classes. - It is important to make an appointment with your advisor as soon as possible if you are not registered for classes yet.

- Students studying for the first time in the U.S. must enroll in at least one in person course in Spring 2022.
- Undergraduate students must enroll in at least 12 credit hours.
- Graduate students must enroll in at least 6 credit hours.
- If you transferred your I-20 to UWF and were enrolled in Spring 2021 or Summer 2021 as an F-1 student, you are eligible for fully online classes.
Please note that the full time credit hours above are the minimum to maintain F-1 status. - Your degree plan may require additional courses.
- You need to work with your academic advisor to ensure that you are on track for your degree plan.

F-1 students in the Intensive English Program must enroll full time to maintain F-1 status.

Report your Arrival in the US
After you arrive in the U.S., upload a copy of your I-94 arrival form.

Check your email for follow up from International Affairs
When your check in is complete, you will get a confirmation by email.
- F-1 students must pick up a copy of their updated I-20.
- The I-20 is available for pick up the week after you check in.
- The International Center, Building 71, is open from 8 AM to 4:30 PM for pick up.
- Keep all your I-20s so that you have all your F-1 documents in your records.
- J-1 students do not get a new copy of the DS-2019.
