Who is my academic advisor?

  • Students in the on-campus MBA program are advised by Ms. Amy Brewer (abrewer1@uwf.edu).
  • Students in the online MBA program are advised by Ms. Amy Sinkus (asinkus1@uwf.edu).

Let's stay in touch!

  • Please include your UWF ID number in all correspondence. It helps us help you!
  • We really enjoy talking to our students and want to help if you are having any difficulties. You can set up a time to talk by contacting our office at mba@uwf.edu.

Your Degree Audit and Degree Plan

Your degree audit lists all of the requirements for your degree and shows your progress toward completing them. You should review your degree audit and degree plan at least once a semester. Your degree plan can be found by logging into your degree audit, selecting the ‘Plans’ tab.

If you have any questions about your degree audit or degree plan, please contact your advisor immediately.

Registration

In spring 2020, our office began auto-registering students for their next semester courses  based on their degree plans. This new process has proven to alleviate students of this added responsibility, allowing you to focus on your coursework. We will continue this process and notify you each semester when the registration process starts and is completed.

Important Dates

Parts of Term

Parts of Term are the designated dates within a full semester or term. Courses that start/end in different parts of term may have different add/drop periods that could potentially affect tuition charges/refunds issued to students. Courses in the MBA Program are primarily offered during the following terms:

  • POT 1 = Full semester
  • POT 2 = First half of semester
  • POT 3 = Second half of semester
  • POT 96 (summer only) = First half of semester
  • POT 90 (summer only) = Second half of semester

AKA

The term Part of Term is sometimes also referred to in abbreviated or shortened form (ex: Part of Term 1 maybe referred to as POT 1, Term 1, or T1).

Add/Drop Period

This is the period of time in which you can make schedule changes without any academic penalty. Add/Drop Period dates are dependent upon the individual course's part of term and can be found on the Academic Calendar.

Withdrawal deadline

If you find that you need to leave a course after the end of Add/Drop, it is considered a withdrawal. A grade of W will be posted to your transcript, but grades of W have no bearing on your GPA. Withdrawal deadlines are dependent upon the part-of-term in which you are enrolled and can be found on the Academic Calendar.

Grades

Course grades of C or higher are considered passing. Course grades of C- and below are considered failing, and you will not receive credit for that course. There is also no grade forgiveness at the graduate level.  You must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher to graduate.

Student Assessment of Instruction

  • Each semester, the university asks students to complete a Student Assessment of Instruction (SAI). Your feedback is critical for our continuous improvement. You will need to complete an SAI for each of your courses each semester. Completing SAIs takes only a few moments and they are anonymous, so take the opportunity to let your professors know about your experience in their classes.
  • SAIs become available three weeks prior to the course end date and  remain open until the start of the following term. Refer to the MyClasses app (in MyUWF) for course end dates.
  • Failure to  complete SAIs  will prevent you from viewing your final grades and will trigger an SAI Hold to be put on your record  until you complete all outstanding SAIs or until the first day of classes of the next term. SAI holds do not impact your access to registration.

MBA Portfolio

(warning) Industry Selection (warning)

The same industry should be used for all four portfolio papers, unless you have been granted an exception by the MBA Office. By focusing your research on the same industry, you will build a portfolio that demonstrates an in-depth understanding across the functional areas of business.

MBA Portfolio Courses

There are four MBA Core Courses that require completion of a portfolio paper:

  1. ECP 6705 Advanced Managerial Economics
  2. FIN 6406 Financial Management
  3. ISM 6137 Business Analytics
  4. MAR 6815 Marketing Management

Portfolio Papers & Rubrics

In each portfolio course, the instructor will evaluate your final portfolio paper using a grading rubric, which will be returned to you.  It is your responsibility to download, save, and backup all graded rubrics and final papers as soon as they are satisfactorily completed.

You will lose access to the course in Canvas after each course ends, so it is imperative that graded rubrics are downloaded and saved in a timely manner, once they become available.

Backup your documents!

We strongly recommend using your UWF Google Drive to backup your papers and graded rubrics.  As a UWF student, you have free access to Drive and other Google apps.

Submitting your Portfolio

In your final semester of the program, you will submit your final MBA Portfolio, which includes your four (4) papers and four (4) graded rubrics. This is an important part of our MBA Program assessment. You will not be cleared for graduation without this component completed.

Student Code of Academic Conduct

Please take a moment and review UWF's Student Code of Academic Conduct. It is always a difficult time when an MBA student is accused of academic dishonesty and it can often permanently derail a student from completing their degree at UWF. This document provides details as to what constitutes academic misconduct.
