For student's classified as non-Florida residents or classified with UWF as Fl Resident-Need Verification, follow the prompts below:
If your residency with UWF is listed as "FL Resident - Need Verification". This means that UWF needs documentation from you in order to verify your Florida resident status. You will need to verify your residency with the Registrar's office. Information on how to change your residency status can be found at: http://catalog.uwf.edu/undergraduate/residencyfortuitionpurposes/.
Veteran O/S Waiver Form
Established in s. 1009.26 (13), F.S., the C.W. “Bill” Young Veteran Tuition Waiver is a program that requires a state university, Florida College System institution, or career center to waive out-of-state fees for an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces, the U.S. Reserve Forces, or the National Guard or any other student who is entitled and uses educational assistance provided by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, and who physically resides in Florida while enrolled in the institution. Veteran students will remain eligible under the waiver as long as they are actively enrolled.
Be advised, you must be a UWF student, enrolled in courses, and living in Florida. (If you do not live in Florida and are using Ch. 33 Post 9/11 (100%), follow the steps to request Yellow Ribbon, instructions provided below)
To complete the form, follow these steps:
- You will need to search “Veteran O/S Waiver Form” in your MyUWF account
- Complete the form and upload the requested documentation. The documents that you will be required to upload are your Certificate of Eligibility or DD-214 and proof that you currently reside in Florida. List of required documents:
Important Note: The VA will not cover out-of-state fees, it is the students responsibility to submit an out-of-state waiver through their MyUWF account. Students must submit the waiver before the end of the semester they are enrolled. If completed after the end of the semester, the student will be liable for the out of state fees. Waivers are not retroactive.
Veteran Dependent O/S Waiver Form
Dependents using VA education benefits are eligible for a waiver of out-of-state fees. The dependent must submit a copy of a recent Certificate of Eligibility (COE) and proof they physically reside in Florida. Dependents may only receive this waiver for semesters in which they use VA education benefits. The waiver application is a one-time process provided the student remains continuously enrolled.
Be advised, you must be a UWF student, enrolled in courses, using VA education benefits, and living in Florida. To complete the form, follow these steps:
- Complete the form and upload the requested documentation. The documents that you will be required to upload are your Certificate of Eligibility (must be issued within the last year) and proof that you currently reside in Florida. List of required documents:
Students living in UWF Housing dorms may contact housing@uwf.edu for assistance on obtaining their signed contract. If you have not signed your contract yet, contact our office at mvrc@uwf.edu or call 850-474-2550 for assistance.

Active Duty Out of State Waiver
Active duty members of the United States Armed Forces residing in or stationed outside of the state are eligible for a waiver of out-of-state fees. The student must submit a copy of their current orders and most recent LES with the completed waiver application. The waiver application is a one-time process provided the student remains continuously enrolled.
Be advised, you must be a UWF student and enrolled in courses to complete the form. To complete the form, follow these steps:
- You will need to search “Active Duty Out of State Waiver” in your MyUWF account
- Complete the form and upload the requested documentation. List of required documents:

Active Duty Temporary Residency
Active duty service members stationed at a military installation in Florida do not need to submit the Active Duty Out-of-State Waiver application. Qualifying service members, spouses, and dependents are eligible to receive temporary residency. Active drilling members of the Florida National Guard are also eligible for temporary residency.
To be classified as a Temporary Resident:
- Active duty service member: Declare "military on orders" on the UWF admission application and provide a copy of the most recent Title 10 assignment orders.
- Dependents: Declare "military on orders" on the UWF admission application. A copy of orders for the service member and DEERS verification for dependents will be required.

VA Yellow Ribbon Program
The Yellow Ribbon GI Enhancement Program (Yellow Ribbon Program) is a provision of the Post 9/11 Veterans Education Assistance Act of 2008. This program allows an institution of higher learning to voluntarily enter into an agreement with the VA to fund tuition expenses that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate. The Yellow Ribbon program at UWF covers the out-of-state tuition fees for individuals eligible for the maximum benefit rate (100%) of the Post 9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33) residing outside the state of Florida and are considered non-Florida residents for tuition purposes. Yellow Ribbon will be granted to the first 250 qualified students on a first-come, first-serve basis.
If you do not live in Florida and are using Ch. 33 Post 9/11 (100%), follow these steps to request Yellow Ribbon:
- When submitting your VA Enrollment Certification Form (ECF) select 'YES' under 'If you are a non-Florida resident, do you desire Yellow Ribbon (Recommended, if eligible)?
Veterans using Chapter 31
If you are a non-Florida resident and living in the State of Florida, your residency status will be changed to temporary resident by the Registrar’s Office once we receive the documentation from your CH31 counselor and MVRC adds your name to the CH31 in-state residency list. Notify MVRC if your residency is listed as a Non-Florida Resident (mvrc@uwf.edu or 850-474-2550).
