Fees for the UWF Plan for F1 and J1 Students

Insurance is an annual coverage. To alleviate the financial toll of the annual fee, insurance is charged in 2 installments: fall and spring/summer. Summer-only coverage is only for students with a May Start date on their Form I-20 or DS2019.

  • Annual Fees for International Student insurance will be charged in 2 payments: First Billed in Fall and Second Billed in Spring.
  • Students will be responsible for payment of the insurance fees UNLESS they successfully Opt Out to use their own insurance.
  • Insurance fees will be posted in student Transact (formerly CashNet) accounts for payment by the Semester Fee Due Dates for Fall and Spring.
  • Insurance fees must be paid in full for the coverage term and cannot be paid in a payment plan.
    • Students who begin study at UWF in Summer Semester will have the summer-only fee charged to their Transact (formerly CashNet) in May.

Dependent Coverage

Students who have dependents who will reside with them in the US may elect to enroll dependents in their own insurance.

LewerMark provides coverage options for F2 and J2 dependents on a voluntary enrollment basis.

If you elect to purchase dependent insurance, you will pay fees directly to LewerMark.

Optional Coverage Options - Not included in the UWF Lewer Mark Plan for International Students

The UWF LewerMark International Insurance Plan meets and exceeds the Florida Board of Governors Requirements for international student insurance.

The plan does not include coverage for dental or vision expenses. These coverages are not included in US health insurance plans. LewerMark offers options for students who want to add this coverage in addition to health insurance.

Fees for Dental and Vision insurance are paid directly to LewerMark.

Looking for insurance for F2 dependents?

For dependent coverage options, students and their spouses or children can visit lewermark.com/uwf and scroll down to the important information section at the bottom of the page. There is an icon listed as dependent coverage options. The price doe dependent insurance is dependent on several factors and there is not an exact price that can be reflected for all dependents. Students could also go directly to the dependent quoting site at lewermark.com/insurance-options-for-your-spouse-and-children.

Frequently Asked Questions

The insurance requirement states students must have continuous coverage for their full program at UWF including semester breaks and summer. F1 students must have coverage in summer, even if they plan to travel home during a break. Summer insurance will be charged with Spring insurance.

All F1 students will be required to pay the Spring/Summer insurance fee if they are enrolled in Spring semester programs at UWF. This is to provide coverage for students who:

  • may not graduate and have to extend their Form I-20 for additional time to complete their program requirements.
  • need insurance if they will continue at UWF in a new program in Fall after Spring Graduation.
  • need insurance coverage until they secure insurance through their OPT employer.

Students who complete their program at the end of the Spring semester may submit a request directly to international@uwf.edu to cancel their remaining summer coverage and receive a refund of the remaining insurance fee directly from LewerMark.
If requesting cancelation of Summer coverage, the end of insurance coverage cannot be before May 15. Requests must include the address to which the student would like to receive the refund check.
