This guide is intended to tell you the basics of completing the Food Safety course on the UWF Campus for the Certificate in Event Planning program. 

General Info

Food Safety refers to the safe food handling and storage practices that prevent food-borne illnesses.

Safe steps in food handling and storage are essential to prevent food-borne illnesses. You can’t see, smell, or taste harmful bacteria that may cause illness. The Environmental Health & Safety department will conduct random inspection of temporary food service events.

Why do we need Food Safety Training?

Food Safety Training is important for those who work with events/food on campus. This training is one of the courses that can be taken to obtain your Certificate in Event Planning. To learn more about the Certificate in Event Planning program, visit the Certificate in Event Planning web page.

Who needs training? How often?

Anyone who would like to learn more about proper food safety is welcome to take the course. For those pursuing the Certificate in Event Planning, you can complete this course as part of your requirements. You only need to take the course once.*

*All courses must be completed within a year and a half to receive the Certificate in Event Planning.

How do I take the training?

You can access the training through SCOOP in MyUWF or by following the link in the References section below. After viewing the presentation, you will take a quiz. If you pass the quiz, you will have completed the training. For more details, please see the yellow panel on the right.

Responsibilities

  • Follow UWF policy for Food Safety for Campus Events. 
  • Consult references and training materials as needed in their job functions
  • Undergo Food Safety Training before handling food at events
  • Product sold at on campus bake sales must come from an approved provider.
  • Consult with Parking Services if you are hosting an event to coordinate Event Parking.

How do I obtain this Certification?

The training is offered in an online-only format through SCOOP

  • Review the Food SafetyTraining
  • Login to SCOOP
  • Navigate to the "Eligible" tab
  • Scroll down to "Food Safety Training" and click the quiz link
  • Complete the quiz.

Upon passing the quiz, your completion badge will automatically update in SCOOP in about an hour. The training can be reviewed at any point after completing it.
