Overview
The ITS Help Desk monitors external cyber-security breaches that impact UWF Gmail accounts. Although these external cyber-security breaches are not UWF data breaches, these outside breaches may still compromise your account credentials. This is stated in the UWF Electronic Communications Policy. It is also recommended to use a unique password not used for any services other than MyUWF/ArgoNet.
Notification
The ITS Help Desk will notify and secure as many accounts as necessary following a non-UWF data breach. Secured accounts may require resetting your MyUWF/ArgoNet password or reactivating your MyUWF/ArgoNet account to restore access.
Addressing Potential Compromises
The ITS Help Desk subscribes to notifications sent by Have I Been Pwned. This legitimate website allows users to check whether their personal data has been compromised by data breaches; it also allows organizations to check whether the email addresses associated with their systems have been compromised too.
If you have received a notification from the ITS Help Desk that your account was included in a non-UWF data breach, we recommend that you complete the following steps to secure your account:
- Change your MyUWF/ArgoNet password immediately via the My Account app in MyUWF. Use a unique password and to not use the new password on any other site. Changing your password may prevent anyone who received your compromised data from accessing your UWF account.
- Turn on 2-Step Verification for your UWF Gmail account. Turning on 2-Step verification can add an extra layer of security to your UWF Gmail account by preventing unauthorized users from accessing your account. And with 2-Step verification, Google may notify you of any possible unauthorized logins to your UWF Gmail account.
