Disposition Assessment Procedures
Advanced degree program candidates’ dispositions will be assessed at two transition points in the program – the Admission transition point and the Graduation transition point. Any identified concerns/weaknesses will be addressed through the Response to Intervention Process.
Procedures for Disposition Assessment
- Transition Point Assessment - Admission: Upon admission to the program, the advanced degree candidate will be provided a copy of the department guidelines that detail the program dispositions. Advanced degree candidates must sign this statement as evidence that they understand the policy as written.
- Within the first semester of graduate studies, each program applicant must complete the Professional Education Applicant Disposition Self-rating Scale to be admitted into any advanced degree program within the Department of Teacher Education and Educational Leadership. Students will not be able to register for a second semester of courses until they have completed the Professional Education Applicant Disposition Self-rating Scale. The applicant must also have two outside raters complete a similar form, the Professional Education Applicant Disposition Rating Scale. Before students are admitted to the Department of Teacher Education and Educational Leadership, they must submit the names of two of professional references, along with their relationship to the applicant, phone number(s), and e-mail addresses. Within the student’s first semester of coursework, these individuals will be contacted by the Graduate Advising Office and provided access to the Professional Education Applicant Disposition Rating Scale.
- Transition Point Assessment - Graduation: Prior to graduation, advanced degree program candidates must complete a second and final Professional Education Applicant Self-Rating Scale.
- Advanced degree program candidates will be informed if any concerns on disposition forms are noted. Anytime concerns or exemplary actions related to disposition assessment occur, the concern or exemplary action will be documented in the student’s file maintained in the Department of Teacher Education and Educational Leadership Graduate Advising Office.
- If satisfactory progress toward meeting the dispositions outcomes is not demonstrated, an advanced degree program candidate may not be allowed to register for additional courses until the identified issues are resolved.
