| Abstract | A mandatory meal plan policy has been developed for the provision of a service the University considers critical for students new to the residential university community. Students experiencing the residential university setting for the first time need the structure and social value, as well as the nutrition, provided by a meal plan. Sharing meals promotes peer-to-peer interaction among students, and for first-year students, in particular, having mealtimes with friends is important in connecting them with the University community and contributing to their social development. |
