A guide for IA's international partners

COMPUTER SCIENCE

GPA:
  • Will not accept a GPA less than 3.0
  • Reviews transcripts more than the GPA 
TRANSCRIPTS:
  • Will only accept students with completed courses in Math, Algorithm, Programming, & other math/computer courses.
  • Previous math/computer courses must have B+ or higher grades (A,O).
  • The student must have completed 120 hours of undergraduate study.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:
  • Include why the student is pursuing their specified program
  • Include the student’s professional work experience and how it relates to the program they are applying for
  • Include extracurricular activities the student has participated in outside of school
  • The department does not care for philosophical jargon
SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL:
  • Sample of previous coursework/homework/presentation can help the students' application.

DATA SCIENCE

GPA:
  • Will not accept a GPA less than 3.0
TRANSCRIPTS:
  • The student must have completed 120 hours of undergraduate study
  • Prerequisites
    • MAC 2311, Calculus 1
    • STA 2023, Elements of Statistics
    • One programming course such as C, Java, C++, or Python.

TRANSCRIPTS:
  • Prerequisite courses should be completed with a score of B or higher.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
  • Personal Statements should be individual to the student and not identical to other applicants.

  • A high English proficiency score is critical in order for the student to succeed in the MBA program. If the student's English proficiency score is low, IEP is recommended.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

GPA:
  • GPA of 3.0 or above
  • If applicant has less than a 3.0 GPA, previous coursework is recommended to show. 
TRANSCRIPTS:
  • Looks for prerequisite courses in Computer Science, Information Technology, and Engineering.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:
  • Personal Statements should be individual to the student and not identical to other applicants.

IO PSYCHOLOGY

GPA:
  • GPA of 3.0 or above
TRANSCRIPTS:
  • Success in prior psychology and research methods courses. Grade in methods is scrutinized if not at least a B. 
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:

Letters of Recommendation:

  • Letters of recommendation ideally come from faculty members or instructors and speak to the applicant's aptitude and fit with the degree program. However, professional references such as supervisors are also acceptable.

Personal Statement:

  • How well personal statement aligns with program goals and outcomes (e.g., don't discuss wanting to be a counselor in the workplace as this is not IO)
  • What led you to I-O Psychology as a potential future career and are there any areas in I-O that interest you in particular?
  • What have been your prior experiences with group projects or research teams and how would you describe a good team member?
  • What professional skills would you like to develop and how will the UWF I-O Program assist you with these goals?
  • Discuss how your research methods and/or statistics courses prepared you for this program.
