Overview

Simply put, a "student service" is the name of the service that the UWF tutoring services offers. Student services need to be created in GradesFirst before tutors set up a kiosk, before tutors set their availability, and before students can schedule and request appointments through GradesFirst.

NOTE:  The student services for the ACE Lab and the Writing Lab were created before the Fall 2014 semester began.

Instructions

Step 1

Make sure you have Kiosk Administrator user role.  Review Step 1 of Setting up a kiosk for Tutoring to see who should have this user role.

Step 2

Open any web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, etc.).  Go to uwf.gradesfirst.com.

Step 3

Click on the downward-facing arrow in the top right corner of the screen.  A drop-down menu should appear.  Click "Admin Settings."

Step 4

Click on the "Student Services" link in the "Kiosk Options" section.

Step 5

Review the student services listed.

ACE Lab Staff:  The student services "Study Hall," "Tutoring," and "General Paper Editing" should already be listed.

Writing Lab Staff:  View step 9 of Creating, editing, and deleting locations to see which student services should already be created.

Inactive student services are shaded gray.  Active student services are bold.

To delete a student service, click the "X" beside the location.

To edit a student service, click the pencil beside the location.

To create a new student service, click the "Add a New Location" link.

*These instructions continue as if you chose to edit or add a student service.

Step 6

Create, revise, or confirm the name of your student service.  The name cannot exceed 30 characters.

Check the box beside "Active" if you want the student service active (meaning that tutors can use this student service at a kiosk, and that students can schedule and request appointments for this student service if the tutoring service allows).

Step 7

Select the type of service you want this student service to be.

  • "Advising" is reserved for advisors.
  • "Tutoring" should be selected if the students will be allowed to schedule and request appointments through GradesFirst.

ACE Lab Staff:  The student services that follow this type of service are "Tutoring" and "General Paper Editing."

Writing Lab Staff:  None of your services follows this type of service.

  • "Track time" should be used for tracking when students check in and check out of a location.

ACE Lab Staff:  The student service that follows this type of service is "Study Hall."  This service also allows students to check in and out using different kiosks.

Writing Lab Staff:  All of your services follow this type of service.  Every service will track students' check-in and check-out times.

  • "Record a visit" should be used to track when students visit a particular service.
  • "Email Advisor" allows students to e-mail advisors from kiosks.

Step 8

Click the blue "Save" button.
