Overview

This guide is intended to tell you the basics of completing Stormwater Awareness Training (SWAT) and to provide links to additional information.

General Info

Why do we need Stormwater Awareness Training?

The University operates its own stormwater systems under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination Systems (NPDES) Phase II Program. Specific permit parameters are contained within UWF’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit with the State of Florida and Environmental Protection Agency. This permit helps regulate the stormwater runoff that is discharged into local water bodies. UWF is responsible for informing and educating the employees on stormwater, stormwater runoff, and illicit discharges. Specific requirements of the MS4 involve stormwater education and outreach training for all employees.

Who needs training? How often?

All UWF employees should take the Stormwater Awareness Training at least once.

UWF staff in the following Departments are required to take the Stormwater Awareness Training on an annual basis:

  • Building Services
  • Environmental Health and Safety
  • Facilities and Maintenance
  • Grounds
  • Utilities

How can I report an illicit discharge?
