- schedule an appointment with their new major advisor. Only the new Program Academic Advisor can submit this electronic form on your behalf. Please see your Advisor for assistance. You should always discuss these changes with your current Advisor so they may offer additional important information that may affect your decision.
- This includes changing the major, declaring a dual degree or double major, deleting a major (you cannot delete your major if you only have one major), and declaring/deleting a minor or certificate.
- Graduate students should seek assistance through the Graduate School.
CertificatesCertificates can be added or deleted via the same process as changing majors or minors (above). Please schedule an appointment with the new certificate advisor. Associate of Arts (AA Degrees)The University of West Florida will automatically award A.A. degrees to bachelor’s degree-seeking students who have completed all requirements for an Associate of Arts degree. To qualify, a UWF student must meet the requirements outlined in the University Catalog. Students may choose to opt out of being automatically awarded their Associate of Arts Degree. Do I need a certain GPA or grades to change my major? What if I am on probation or returning from suspension?
A 2.0 cumulative GPA and good academic standing is required to change a major. However, the prospective department makes the final decision on students applying to change their major. Students on probation and students returning from suspension may request a change of major, however, approval of the change of major is granted by the chairperson or dean of the prospective department. Students should contact the department offering the new major for guidance.
What about dual or double majors? Minors?
Undergraduate students can declare/receive a maximum of two majors concurrently (either dual or additional majors) and up to three minors. Declaring multiple majors, minors, or pursuing multiple certificates could potentially lead to an extension of a student's academic career and accruing Excess Credit Hour Surcharges. Students should seek academic advisement from individual academic departments to determine the length of a desired major, minor, or certificate prior to changing/declaring a major/minor or pursuing a certificate.
How is my catalog year determined?
The catalog year for an undergraduate student’s program (General Studies and major curriculum) will be the catalog year in effect at the time of initial enrollment as a degree-seeking student. Students changing their major have a choice of catalog year; either the catalog year they declare/enter the major, or the catalog year at the time of graduation. Refer to University Catalog for more detailed information.
