Tuition deferments will be granted to students using VA Educational benefits. It is granted to avoid the assessment of late fees, denial of access to classes, libraries, or other institutional facilities, or the requirement to borrow additional funds due to the delayed VA disbursement of tuition funding to UWF. The tuition deferment is only for tuition fees and will not apply to any other charges on students account

To qualify for the tuition deferment students must provide approved VA documents to our office. Required documents would be VA Form 22-1905 or TEB + 22-1990E, or 22-1990, or Certificate of Eligibility (COE), examples of VA Documents may be found here: MVRC - Getting Started

Deferments are applied to students accounts once they have submitted a VA Enrollment Certification (ECF) and have been certified. Although our office applies deferments to students accounts, the cashiers office will finalize the application of tuition deferments to students account. They may apply deferments to students account once the pervious semester has submitted grades. Ensure to monitor your student email for notification of late fees.

Deferment due dates are contingent on the documents provided to our office. Students who submit initial application documentation (1905, TEB+1990E, 1990) will be granted a 90 day deferment for fall and spring full term courses (Term 1) and 30 day deferments for summer and mini or accelerated terms. View deferment due dates here: https://uwf.edu/academic-affairs/departments/military-veteran-resource-center/tuition--funding/training-time-requirements-for-va-benefits/

Students who provide a Certificate of Eligibility will be granted a tuition deferment until the end of the semester.

If you have less than 100% Post 9/11 on file, the tuition deferment will still be applied until the end of the semester. It is your responsibility for the percentage of the tuition and fees not covered. You may contact the Cashiers Office at 850-474-3037 or stuacct@uwf.edu to remove the deferment on file to pay sooner than the end of the semester

IMPORTANT NOTES: Students who submit documentation to our office late (past the assessed late fee due date) will be liable for the late fee regardless if a VA Enrollment Certification Form (ECF) was submitted. Our office is unable to request for a deferment to be applied to students accounts without required documentation being on file.

If a student has available financial aid, it will be used prior to the posting of the deferment. Should financial aid be used only for tuition and fees, it may be reimbursed once the VA pays funding for tuition and fees to UWF

An additional deferment extension may be issued if there is a delay in the receipt of benefits, due to no fault of the student, provided the extension is requested prior to the deferment due date.

Students who do not have a MyUWF student account or students enrolled in a certificate program cannot request a VA deferment. The University reserves the right to deny deferral status to students who have established an unfavorable credit rating.
