The University of West Florida requires that all UWF students and programs going abroad have insurance coverage. The details of this policy are available at UWF-Sponsored International Travel Insurance Requirementthe UWF Study Abroad Policy. This page explains how to get the required University of West Florida insurance for a study abroad program. For help with the process, please contact International Affairs at studyabroad@uwf.edu.

Instructions

Submit a Health and Accident Insurance Verification Form

UWF accepts insurance from multiple providers as long as the policy covers the dates of travel abroad and meets the established coverage minimums. If you have insurance that you want to use, you can download the Health and Accident Insurance Verification Form, have the form completed by your insurance agency, and email the completed form to studyabroad@uwf.edu. This is proof of the health insurance requirement.

Study Abroad Health Insurance Requirements

Per the guidelines of University Policy AC-26.04-10/22, the following coverage requirements must be met for the duration of the program:

  1. Coverage must be for a minimum of $100,000 for medical expenses;
  2. Include a minimum of $25,000 for emergency evacuation;
  3. Include a minimum of $25,000 for repatriation; and
  4. Include a minimum of $5,000 for mental health services

Study Abroad Health Insurance Options

Students studying abroad have two options for health insurance coverage:

  1. Enroll in the recommended University of West Florida Study Abroad Insurance Plan by following these steps: How to enroll in UWF recommended Study Abroad Insurance

  2. Use a different policy and complete the insurance compliance waiver at https://marina.uwf.edu/pass/dynamicforms//?formid=5e8f53d6-de41-4dca-a667-f22da54eed4e
    1. All coverage requirements listed above must be provided by your insurance company in order for the alternate policy to be accepted.
      1. For instance, if your policy covers $150,000 in medical expenses, $15,000 for emergency evacuation, $25,000 for repatriation, and $10,000 for mental health services, this would not be an acceptable policy because it does not meet the minimum requirements for emergency evacuation.
