If you find a lost USB device
When we locate a USB flash drive we want to be helpful and locate the user who it belongs to. Your intentions may be good, but hackers know there are good people out there who will plug these devices into their machines. So these hackers will install files malicious code on a USB drive knowing that users will plug the device into a computer. Do no plug any type of USB device that flash drive and leave it somewhere, hoping that a good Samaritan will find this infected device and plug it in to find its owner.
Do not plug any USB flash drives or external hard drives you find into a computer. Hackers can use USB flash drives as an attack vector that can install malware on your machine directly from the USB device. When you locate a USB device it is best practices not to plug the device into your computer. Instead, turn the device into UWF Police. They have a Lost & Found form that people can complete when they lose items.
