Info

Undergraduate students who wish to change their program, have been accepted to UWF for an upcoming semester, and have not registered for courses for their first semester at UWF should contact the Office of Admissions. See Major/track change for process.

  •  If you have already registered courses for your first semester at UWF, please follow the change of program (CoP) guidelines for continuing undergraduate students. Continuing students (students who have been admitted and/or enrolled in previous semesters) may change their program at any point in time, but the actual date of CoP submission dictates what semester the CoP will be effective.

Graduate students should seek assistance through the Graduate School.

Warning
  • Students receiving Financial Aid of any type should check with the Office of Financial Aid regarding change of program implications on their student loan eligibility.
  • Student-athletes, veterans, and TRiO students must also seek approval from an Athletic, Veteran, or TRiO advisor in addition to the specific college Academic Advisor, Department Chair, or Dean.  For qualifying students, changes will not be processed without an Athletic or Veteran Advisor signature.

Instructions

How do I change my

program

major?

All undergraduate students seeking to change their program major must complete a Change of Program Major FormCompleted CoP CoM forms should be delivered to the Office of the Registrar, Building 18. Program Major and minor changes/declarations will not be processed without a student AND advisor signature.  Emails without an attached CoP CoM form and/or phone requests will not suffice. Pending decision from Provost's Office on whether or not an advisor signature should/will be required for all major changes.

When can I change my

program

major?

Change of Program Major forms should be submitted prior to the end of drop/add week in order for the program major change to be effective that semester.  If forms are received after the end of add/drop week, the programmajor/minor change will be effective for the following semester and will include the corresponding catalog year. Students with exceptions should still complete the aforementioned form and submit it to the Office of the Registrar.

Do I need a certain GPA or grades to change my

program

major? What if I am on probation or returning from suspension?

A 2.0 cumulative GPA and good academic standing are required to change a programmajor.  However, the prospective department makes the final decision on students applying to change their programmajor. Students on probation and students returning from suspension may request a change of programmajor, however, approval of the change of program major is granted by the chairperson or dean of the prospective department. Students should contact the department offering the new program major for guidance.

What about dual degrees or double

programs

major? Minors?

Undergraduate students can declare/receive a maximum of two programs majors/degrees concurrently (either dual or additional majors) and up to three minors. Declaring multiple programsmajors, minors, or pursuing multiple certificates could potentially lead to an extension of a student's academic career and accruing Excess Credit Hour Surcharges. Students should seek academic advisement from individual academic departments to determine the length of a desired programmajor, minor, or certificate prior to changing/declaring a program/minor or pursuing a certificate.

How is my catalog year determined?

The catalog year for an undergraduate student’s program major (General Studies and major curriculum) will be the catalog year in effect at the time of initial enrollment as a degree-seeking student. Students changing their program major have a choice of catalog year; either the catalog year they declare/enter the programmajor, or the catalog year at the time of graduation.  Refer to the University Catalog for more detailed information.
