Overview
Perusall is an e-reader platform that allows students and faculty to annotate the assigned readings and engage the reading material in a style akin to social media posting. Additionally, students collaborate with each other about the reading and thus the reading process becomes social versus solitary. This can be motivating for students that may not otherwise enjoy reading course material.
The Perusall platform is free for students, instructors, and educational institutions. While UWF does not have an institutional license for Perusall, instructors can still use Perusall for free with their own uploaded materials and Open Educational Resources. Instructors can also adopt a course textbook through Persuall. Students must purchase the textbook through Perusall as the textbook is incorporated directly into the platform with publisher permission.
Please note
Perusall's screenreading feature will only work with documents that are themselves accessible. Because Perusall allows users to upload their own content, it is important to ensure that any documents uploaded or adopted by the instructor within Perusall include accessibility features like alt-text for images and headings for organization. View Web Accessibility: Web Documents for more details. View the Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) for more details about the accessibility features of Perusall and its integration with Canvas.
