Overview

On December 4, 2017, departmental and employee Web (I) drives will no longer be accessible from the Internet in their current location. Starting immediately, new departmental, employee, and student ArgoNet accounts will no longer include a web drive.  In addition, existing web drives that are not in use will be deactivated. This change will take place to ensure that UWF is taking all necessary measures to maintain ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) and FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) compliance. Content published to the CMS, Google Sites/Drive, or Confluence will not be affected.

What will happen to the files on my Web (I) drive?

Files on the Web (I) drive will be moved to your Home (H) drive if you do not elect to retain web publishing.

I use my Web (I) drive for web publishing. Can an exception be made?

You must notify ITS before December 4, 2017 to request that your Web (I) drive be accessible from the Internet at the new location. The new web address for your web drive is pages.uwf.edu/{username} (Example: pages.uwf.edu/jdoe).  You may start accessing your content immediately at the new web address.

Your web drive must be compliant with FERPA and ADA. Please see Online Content Considerations for links to information pertaining to ADA and FERPA compliance on the web. For more details about FERPA compliance refer to FERPA Information or contact the Office of the Registrar.  For more information about ADA compliance, you can inquire with Institutional Communications or the Student Disability Resource Center.

Submit a request through the ITS Support Center stating that you need your content to remain accessible on the web. Please specify your account name in the request.

What other options do I have for publishing web content?

  • CMS
  • Confluence
  • Google Docs/Sites
  • eLearning

How can I check what's on my Web (I) drive?

The Web (I) drive works like a folder on your computer, except anything saved on the folder is posted to the Internet. The Web (I) drive is available on campus computers when you sign in using your ArgoNet credentials. To locate the Web (I) drive from a campus computer, simply click on the Windows Explorer icon in your task bar. From the window that opens, click the directory titled "Web_username [Argofiler] (I:)" on the left side of the window. You will then be taken to your Web (I) drive. From off campus or using a non-Windows operating system, you may access your Web (I) drive after logging into eDesktop and using the instructions above.

Will students continue to have access to Web (I) drives?

Future students will not receive Web (I) drives as a part of their ArgoNet file storage. Students who already have ArgoNet accounts will be able to keep their Web (I) drives.

Faculty:

If you need students to have a Web (I) drive for web publishing as part of a course requirement, submit a request to the ITS Help Desk that includes the course section needing access.
